It has been awhile since I’ve blogged.  Trying to get back into it has been a bit of a challenge.  However, I am happy to report that I have finished my first year at the Mason School of Business (MBA program at the College of William and Mary).  I thought by now that I would have an internship for the summer, but God had some other plans.  Right after I got home for the summer, my two boys got sick.  My youngest is still trying to recover from his summer cold (hate those!), but my oldest is doing much better.  It has been hard watching my classmates sitting in offices around the country, doing some work and earning money while I clean up vomit, and stay up all night because of my boys has a fever.  I do owe that to them. I spent 6 months away to school, with minimal interaction with my children.  I have no grounds to complain about anything.  If anyone should be resting right now, it should be my wife.  How she managed to get them ready in the morning, work at a stressful place during the day, pick them up after school, feed them dinner and get them ready for bed…all in 6 months…this is amazing to me, and a great example of service, and love.  So frankly, the internship can wait a little…but life isn’t fair that way… We need some money to come in order to help us get through the summer.  I have an interview this coming Wednesday.  I am a bit scared because it is with a great local bank.  It would be awesome to intern there for the summer, but I am not sure what will happen after the interview.  Would it be just a “We just wanted to meet you” type of meeting or “Well, we didn’t have an internship, but we’ve made this position for you because we really wanted you to come work with us” meeting?  I don’t know…I just pray that God will provide for our need.  That’s really all I can do. In other news, my wife and I are starting a business together.  It would be a respite care type of business.  Our initial consultati

Un Nom pour Revivre…

I spent last week in North Carolina—The Outer Banks—with my family, and in-laws. The kids had a great time. It was great seeing them looking at the ocean with amazement. I love that look on children. The world is such a great place to discover everyday. I wish I could still look at live with that kind of hope and excitement everyday. These days we’re weighted down by rumors of war, famine, and other cataclysmic event waiting to happen, it’s hard pushing the “pause” button of our lives. Seeing my wife and kids playing in the sand and watching the waves was good for me. There is life outside of our routine, and the world is still an amazing place. Even better, I am thankful that the God who created all these wonderful colors and places took the time to love me at the cost of His own life.

Lomography Home of the Day - yapfl

Our LomoHome of the Day says that “the greatest thing in the morning after waking up is to indulge in the beauty of Lomographs from all over the world.” Indeed, he is right! So let us visit this LomoHome and let ourselves be part of that wonderful experience!

I’ll begin by saying this:  Being at the Mason School of Business is a great opportunity.  The people, the place…everything is fantastic.  But today, reality set it just for awhile.  I have had several talks with some classmates, and while we are all working and laboring together, the truth is that some of us are wrestling with life…you know…the one that you live outside of Miller Hall (That’s the building that houses the School of Business!). In light of that, I’ve decided to start a philanthropy project: Philanthropy 1.0 What is it?  Well, in short, I’ll be asking my classmates to give up 1 lunch to help insure that some of our classmates have access to some financial help due to their hardship.  There are 130 of us in the class.  If we all gave $10 (which is usually what we spend on lunch), that’s $1300 going towards someone who has to pay rent for a month, or someone who can’t replace a tire because they didn’t plan for it. 1 Lunch…1 Day….1 Life changed! I’m in…are you?

On World Aids Day, MSF launched “Positive Generation: Voices for an AIDS free-future” - a collaborative project based on songs from HIV support groups in Zimbabwe mixed with the voices of international artists who have volunteered their talents and support.

This project aims to raise awareness about the reality of HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa, which has two sides: people can live highly positive lives with HIV/AIDS treatment, which can also prevent further transmission of the virus; but shortfalls in funding for HIV programs in developing countries threaten the recent progress made in the fight against the virus putting the lives of thousands of people at risk.

The ‘Positive Generation’ project includes a CD, book, documentary, and a website. This preview shows how MSF uses music to pass important messages about the virus in Zimbabwe, to explain to patients that they are not alone, that treatment can stabilize the illness, and that the stigma must be broken.
